Out of My Face Akimbo // Wilting Whities

How did model diversity fare on the New York runways this season? About as well as an Ugg after a slushy snowfall: not at all, and ugly.

The Calvin Klein show dazzled us AnA girls -- we sat front row, two seats from that pre-teen blogging whore and sadly out of clawing range-- with tons of black and muted tones on cool shoulders but no Lyndsey Scott, the New Jersey native who stomped out this Spring as the first black Calvin exclusive. With Shena Moulton in the lineup and 90s supermodels Stella Tenant, Kristen McMenamy and Kristy Hume as muse, we forgive Francisco for his lack of diversity!

Miss Moulton went ponytail-t0-ponytail with 90s supes!

The Row designers dazzled the 176 super-VIP invitees -- Ms. Streisand gave a pity wave to Tila Tequila, shunned outside the venue before she was stoned to death by Grace Coddington -- with an epically minimalistic collection in mostly black that was pieced together by an army of tiny goblin hands.
The clothes were about the only thing black in that room, besides of course the olives floating in Ms. Ross's early morning martini. Pump up the casting! If we see one more wide Eastern European face sneering down a runway, we'll smash Magdalena's.

Kudos to DVF for picking all mannequin types for her cute, flouncy, expectedly wearable presentation. The casting included:
...boring white girls...
...black girls (hey girl hey!)...
...asians...
...blasians...
...blatinasians...
...dots...
...supermodels...
...new girls (who dat?)...

...too many Canadians...

...VS Angels...

...bones...

...perfection caught in a ground-tilted stare...

...and of course Ms. Ross herself, in her singular runway appearance. She knocked Naomi right off the catwalk! Work! Maybe they'll let more ethnics in at Lincoln Center!

In The News Akimbo // Vogue Cover

The May 2009 cover of American Vogue has a lineup of "The Faces Of The Moment." Love the return of models, all smiling with their eyes. If I see Sienna Miller or Renee Zellweger in this rag again I'll scream. Anyway, here is the main front followed by a shot of the other girls on the fold-out.

Very 60s, Bardot tossled hair here, and soft makeup to die for.

Surpises in the line-up include Lara Stone's presence and Chanel Iman's absence. It's very commercial pretty. I'm counting: 3 Brazilians, 2 Russians, one German, one Brit, one Pole and one Ethiopian. Nothing to write home about, but no American models for American Vogue?

Grace Akimbo

AnA's resident photog crush Mario Testino revisits one of his favorite combos in the latest British Vogue -- romantic undress and Natalie Vodianova -- by posing the former vegetable vendor with mannequins and gowns in hand. Loving about this shoot: pinks, hot brassieres, arms-above-the-head, and Vodianova's biceps. How firm of you, my dear.

Two Heads are Better than One : How to Model a Handbag with Natalia & Isabeli

'The Shoulder'
- Put 2 gorgeous heads side by side. One slightly in the foreground. Preferably the head with giant blue eyes.
-Place the handbag strap gingerly over both shoulders. Be sure to get those shoulders in the light.
- 1 girl must cradle the bag from below whilst the other lightly grasps the strap from the side.
- Now purse your lips and... pose!

'The Hold On For Your Life'

- Switch it up and bring the olive skinned beauty to the front.
- Doe-eyed girl should stand behind and suggestively place her hands around the bronzed bombshell right around the crotch area.
- Cover those hands with a giant purse.
-Now grab that bag like you're life depends on it and give a fierce stare.

Good job kids, that's all for today. More tomorrow though so practice!

You made Mama proud.

xoxo
